Bordo’s Commitment to Environmental Responsibility
At Bordo, we take pride in our longstanding dedication to environmental sustainability. Our headquarters in Melbourne’s east stands as a testament to this commitment, being one of the first buildings in Australia to receive a prestigious 5 Star Energy Rating from the Green Building Council of Australia.
Sustainable Building Design
Completed in 2004, our headquarters was meticulously designed with numerous eco-friendly features to create a better environment for both our employees and the planet. Some of the sustainable solutions incorporated into our office design include:
- Natural ventilation systems
- Enhanced roof insulation
- Energy-efficient lighting with daylight dimming controls
- Use of sustainable timber, "green" concrete, and recycled steel
- Implementation of a comprehensive waste management plan
- Rainwater harvesting for landscape irrigation and toilet flushing.
Renewable Energy Initiative
As part of our ongoing efforts to reduce our carbon footprint, we've installed a 105kW solar array on our warehouse and office buildings. This significant investment in renewable energy helps us minimise our reliance on grid electricity and contributes to a cleaner energy future.
Long-Term Benefits
Two decades after implementation, the sustainable aspects of our building have not only paid for themselves but continue to provide an exceptional and healthy workplace for our staff. This success reinforces our belief that environmentally responsible practices can be both innovative and practical.
Beyond Our Buildings
Bordo’s commitment to environmental responsibility extends beyond our facilities:
- We prioritise minimising packaging and using recyclable materials whenever possible.
- Our logistics strategy favours sea and land freight over air freight to reduce our carbon impact.
Through these initiatives, Bordo strives to make a positive contribution to our community and the planet. We believe that by leading by example in environmental stewardship, we can inspire others and create a more sustainable future for all.
