About this item:
  • 1/2" x 16 BSF Bottom Machine Nut HSS Tap - Goliath
  • HSS Bright Finish BSF Machine Nut Bottoming Tap.
  • Machine Nut Taps are used where a long shank is needed and are available in Taper, Intermediate, and Bottoming leads.
  • To ensure easy and precise use the Machine Nut Tap Taper lead has a unique, very long entering chamfer.
  • This makes aligning the cutting end with the work piece simple.
  • Ideal for tapping nuts, small quantities made from tough steel such as stainless steel as well as mild steels, or for rethreading rusty or worn threads.
  • Alternatively, the Intermediate and Bottoming leads are ideally suited to long reach threading applications where the thread needing to be tapped or cleaned is beyond the reach of a standard tap.
  • We recommend the Intermediate lead Machine Nut Tap for long reach through-hole applications and the Bottoming lead for long reach blind hole applications.
  • British Standard Fine thread form was based upon the British Standard Whitworth (BSW) but has a finer thread (more threads per inch for a given diameter).
  • The thread form was first introduced in 1908 and is specified in BS84:1956.
  • When used on external threads this series has greater tensile stress area than coarse threads of the same size.
  • Fine series threads will resist stripping out better than coarse threads in areas where the external and mating internal threads are subjected to loads equal to or greater than the capacity of the screw or bolt.
  • Fine threads are also used where the length of engagement is limited or where wall thickness demands a fine pitch.
